A Robot Created by a Skolkovo Resident Prohibits Entry to those with a High Temperature

26 June 2020

The Promobot company, a Skolkovo Foundation resident and one of the largest producers of service robots in Europe, has unveiled its new product that can aid in controlling access to buildings. The multifunctional terminal, Promobot Control, scans passports, issues passes and blocks access to those with a high temperature.

Promobot Control was created based on Promobot Termocontrol, an autonomous terminal for contactless temperature measurement, which was unveiled at the end of March 2020 and is already in use in large enterprises in Russia, Germany, Greece and the USA.

The improved device is equipped with a passport scanner, a receipt printer, a pass dispenser and RFID-reader, a card payment terminal and a disinfectant dispenser. The device also measures a person’s temperature in five seconds and is accurate to within a 0.2 degree range. Users can integrate Promobot Control into access control systems.

Large companies are already interested in the new development, including Promobot clients and partner companies abroad.

Oleg Kivokurtsev, director of company development at Promobot: “As a technology startup, we are always working ahead of the game. In some Russian regions, the restrictions are starting to lift and businesses and their employees are returning to a normal life routine. However, having said that, the world is not what it was before; the pandemic has changed the ‘rules of the game.’ Under these, we developed our new device with automated access and obligatory temperature measurement. We believe that it is necessary already today to implement this procedure, because tomorrow it could become the new security standard.”

Pavel Krivozubov, head of the department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the Information Technologies Cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation: “The ability to find new possibilities during a crisis period is proof of the company’s maturity and professionalism. I am glad that Promobot is included among our residents. It is a company that, in the current situation, has succeeded to mobilize its engineering resources and to create a new technological solution that is needed at present. It speaks of the company’s huge potential, leadership potential and preparedness for the challenges the future poses.”

Promobot was founded in 2015 in Perm. Since that very year it has been a Skolkovo resident. Today Promobot is one of the largest producers of autonomous service robots in Europe. Promobots work in thirty-nine countries as administrators, promoters, consultants, guides and concierges, replacing or supplementing to “live” employees. Promobot robots can be found in Sberbank, the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the international finance center, Baltimore-Washington airport, and Dubai Mall. All the company’s products are produced and developed in Russia.

The Skolkovo Foundation – a non-profit organization that was founded in September 2010 at the initiative of the president of the Russian Federation. The aim of the Foundation is to create an ecosystem that is favorable to the development of entrepreneurship and research in the following fields: energy efficiency and energy conservation, nuclear, space, biomedical and strategic computer technologies and software. The management of the Skolkovo Innovation Center is entrusted to the Foundation, the activities of which are regulated by a special law that affords special economic conditions to startups, of which there are now over 2400, that have undergone external technological evaluation. In 2019, the revenue of Skolkovo company-participants amounted to 111.6 billion rubles, and the cumulative revenue over 10 years amounted to 412.7 billion rubles. Over 35,000 people work at the startups and over 2900 developments and technological solutions have been patented. An important part of the Skolkovo ecosystem is the research university, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, which was founded and operates with the support of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Skolkovo Innovation Center infrastructure was completed at the expense of the federal budget resulting in the construction of the technopark, university, high school, and road and engineering infrastructure. Over 750,000 square meters of facilities have been put into operation.
