Moscow city aims to launch experimental platform for AI technologies

15 августа 2019

Sberbank, the state-owned financial and digital giant, is discussing with the city and country authorities the creation of a dedicated platform and framework in Moscow to experiment AI technologies. Participants in the experimental site would benefit from a privileged legal and tax framework and be allowed to leverage the Russian capital’s huge data volumes.

The project would focus on such fields of application as smart transport systems, speech recognition in a city contact center, medical diagnostics, face recognition for security purposes, predictive service delivery and management of citizens’ claims and feedback.

According to the draft project, Russia’s domestic AI market amounted to 198 billion rubles last year (around $3.1 billion) and could reach 907 billion rubles ($14.4 billion) by 2024.

A coordination council would include Sergey Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the presidential administration; Maxim Akimov, Deputy Prime Minister for digital economics; Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin; Sberbank president German Gref and presidential aide Andrei Belousov.

Over the past decade, Sberbank has extended its activities to a variety of domains well beyond financial services, betting on new technologies to create a series of “ecosystems.” These new activities range from e-commerce, delivery and food services, to CRM and neuroscience, to name just examples.
