Russian video publishing startup acquires UK company to get stronger and go global

30 мая 2020

Russian video platform Viqeo has announced the acquisition of Suggestv, a UK adtech company, as reported by RB.ru. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2015, Suggestv uses machine learning to increase video views for publishers. These may “automate the embedding of video content in-article to build a predictable pre-roll revenue model and unlock new revenue.”

The London-based startup says it has such clients as Bloomberg, Global Radio, Stylist Media Group and Unilad.

According to Crunchbase, Suggestv has raised a total of $1 million in funding since its inception, the latest round dating back to 2017.

Viqeo presents itself as “a video platform for vertical scroll:” its technology is used by publishers to make videos a seamless part of articles and text. The company will integrate the Suggestv technology into its products, complementing its range of video technologies for digital media. These include including the creation, distribution and monetization of video content.

Viqeo also expects, through this acquisition, to strengthen its presence in the European market.

James Pringle, CEO of Suggestv, will be responsible for the development of video recommendations within Viqeo and for promoting the platform in the UK.

The Viqeo video platform is currently used by Mail.ru Group, Lifehacker, Meduza, Hearst Shkulev Digital, Independent Media and others. In Spain, it is used by the top three publications about video games: Vandal, HobbyConsolas, 3djuegos.
