Prototype stress level gauging gadget unveiled

Russian developers have created a prototype of a bracelet for measuring stress levels – the device tracks human emotions by the electrical activity of the skin. This was reported by the press service of the NTI Platform. The gadget is planned to be presented at the intensive for technology teams Archipelago 2121, which will be held in July-August this year in Veliky Novgorod.

Now the gadget is already able to transmit stress data to a smartphone, it is taught to recognize specific negative emotions and give recommendations on how to cope with them.

“The stress gadget was developed by the team of the Neurotechnology Laboratory of Novgorod State University. A laboratory sample that measures stress levels by measuring the electrical activity of the skin is ready. Developers are preparing a miniature prototype for the Archipelago in the form of a watch or a bracelet with a display,” NTI said.

Currently, some models of fitness bracelets and smart watches are already measuring the level stress, for this they measure the heart rate, but the error, taking into account this method, is too large: fitness trackers do not have enough power to process data and the ability to negative emotions from positive ones. The stress bracelet will be much more accurate, the developers hope.

According to one of the creators of the device, head of the laboratory of neurotechnologies of NovSU Mikhail Lukov, now a psycho-corrective technique is being optimized for a mobile application, which will help users to accurately separate one emotion from another and get a recommendation for a specific case. So, the bracelet is taught to ask users additional questions, identify the reason (anger, guilt, resentment, shame, etc.) and make recommendations.

“For example, resentment is a reaction to injustice. For it to pass, it is necessary to restore justice. If it is impossible to resolve this issue through the offender, the person needs to find a way to resolve the situation on his own – for example, to receive compensation for the damage caused. Not everyone understands the nature of their emotions, sometimes it is enough just to sort out their own reactions in order to find a solution,” Lukov said.

On June 11, it was reported that Russian developers are creating an application Shiva to combat procrastination. In the first month, the application installed on a smartphone and a PC will accumulate the user’s time consumption, and after collecting data, the neural network will give recommendations for improving productivity and help control the chosen development path.
