Russian Railways to Create Digital Twins of Infrastructure Facilities

Though 2024, the company will develop a common data environment for automated control systems BIM, and by 2030 they plan to switch to intelligent control of twins using artificial intelligence. This was announced during an online meeting of the Joint Scientific Council of Russian Railways.

The council members also announced the development of systems for monitoring the state of infrastructure facilities using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

The importance of digital twins for Russian Railways was discussed in the framework of the business program of the PRO // Dvizhenie.Expo conference. Then it became known that the company was developing three projects in this area: a single corporate platform for working with technical documentation, ACS-BIM and a digital twin. For the latter, as specified, at least 2 million sensors will be required, which will collect information online.

In Russia, several projects are already being implemented using digital twins and VR/AR technologies: for example, in production and in engine building.
