Avtodor and Moscow University Develop AI Solution for Monitoring Road Infrastructure

28 October 2021

Avtodor plans to monitor the state of road infrastructure using AI-based solution developed jointly with the Center of Competence of NTI on Big Data of the Lomonosov Moscow State University

The system will reveal corrosion, dents, graffiti, contamination, and other damage to noise protection screens. AI algorithms will work with data received from a device installed on a car, which contains a camera, a GPS module, a microcomputer, and a light sensor.

When the car drives along the noise barriers, the device continuously records video, geodata and light levels. The data is analyzed by a neural network that detects defects in road infrastructure facilities. The creation of the system was based on the results of an assessment of the screen structures at the first stage of construction of the M-12 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway.
