Skoltech Enters the SCImago Institutions Rankings with Leading Positions in Life Sciences and Computer Science

Skolkovo Innovation Center’s university, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), has made it into the SCImago Institutions Rankings, entering the 23rd overall world percentile. It is in the 5th percentile for Eastern Europe and the 2nd percentile for Russia. In Russia and Eastern Europe, it took 1st place for computer science and biology, genetics, and molecular biology.

According to its website, the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) assesses universities and other research-focused institutions. The SIR is home to 7533 institutions and Skoltech took 599th place (23rd percentile) overall worldwide. It occupied the 1st percentile in the innovation ranking for universities in Russia and Eastern Europe and took 2nd place for pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmaceuticals.

Among Russian universities, Skoltech took 5th place after Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, and Novosibirsk State University.

Skoltech takes 2nd place in Russia for agricultural and biological sciences as well as pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmaceuticals. It also took 3rd place for engineering.

Keith Stevenson, the Skoltech provost, stated: “The fact that Skoltech has occupied such high positions in the SCImago Rankings attests to the success of the new model of accelerating university development, which is aimed at scientific and innovative results on a global level. As similar rankings show, investments in Skoltech as a top university, which is competitive at a global level, are paying off.”
