02 September 2021

Russian Internet companies, telecom operators and media holdings will sign an agreement on voluntary commitments to protect children on the Internet on September 1. According to Vedomosti, the document will be signed by nine companies, including Yandex, Mail.ru Group, Kaspersky Lab, MTS, Beeline, MegaFon, Rostelecom, Gazprom-Media and National Media Group. At the same time, it is possible that foreign services may also join the list.

The document consists of 10 points. In particular, companies undertake to independently find and remove content that is undesirable for children and improve tools for their protection, increase children’s digital literacy, develop international cooperation in this area, etc.

The interlocutor of the publication said that these companies will actually comply with the legal requirements for self-regulation of social networks. The purpose of the document is to achieve the removal of illegal content by the companies themselves, and not through its entry by Roskomnadzor, Russian regulatory body, into the relevant register.
