Russian Regulator Proposes Collecting Biometric Data from Taxi Drivers and Car-Sharing Users

The Ministry of Digital Development presented draft legislation, which includes an official description of collecting and handling biometric data cases to implement, RBC reports.

According to the relevant bill, biometric data will be collected by the corresponding companies from taxi drivers as well as car-sharing customers. Among other cases of implementation, the document names civil society meetings and access to financial market organizations using access control and management system.

Subject to approval, the bill will apply on January 1, 2022. In July, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation announced its plans to create digital profiles of passengers, using biometric identification for travel and payment on all types of transport.
