Researchers from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) have developed a new methodology that leverages Big Data to “analyze the growth dynamics of technology-based new ventures.” The key findings of the research are summarized as follows:
- Google Trends is a credible source of high-quality data for analyzing new ventures;
- It can be used as proxy measure of growth of new growth-oriented companies;
- It can be used for analyzing, researching and predicting the growth;
- It is more reliable for unicorns and b2c digital platforms, but applicable to all.
A paper reporting these findings was published in ‘Technological Forecasting and Social Change,’ to be released in print version in August 2021.
